Surajpur: The persistent struggle for clean drinking water at the Government High School in Sonpur (Su), located within the Bhaiyathan block, has finally come to an end, thanks to the swift and sensitive intervention of local representatives. For months, students and staff were grappling with a severe water shortage after the school’s old borewell collapsed. The situation had become so dire that children were forced to leave the school premises during class hours to quench their thirst, raising serious concerns regarding their safety and the quality of their education.
This crisis saw a turning point when Janpad Member Kanti Devi Singh Marko took personal cognizance of the matter. Demonstrating exceptional dedication to her constituents, she prioritized the school’s needs and spearheaded the efforts to find a permanent solution. Through her son and Janpad Member Representative, Mahendra Singh Marko (District Vice President of BJP AJJA Morcha, Surajpur), she formally moved the administration by submitting a compelling request to the Executive Engineer of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department. Her persistent follow-ups ensured that the bureaucratic process was expedited, transforming a long-pending demand into an immediate priority.
The Janpad Member’s commitment was further bolstered by her coordination with the Regional MLA and Cabinet Minister, Laxmi Rajwade. Upon being briefed by the Janpad Member about the hardships faced by the students, Minister Rajwade issued immediate directives to the concerned officials to commence drilling without delay. This seamless collaboration between the Janpad Member and the State Leadership bore fruit within a month, as a brand-new handpump was successfully installed and commissioned within the school courtyard.
The successful installation has brought immense relief to the entire school community. Principal Mini Panicker expressed her profound gratitude, noting that the presence of clean water on-site will now allow students to focus entirely on their studies in a safe environment. Gram Panchayat Sarpanch Chotalal Singh Paikara and SMDC President Shivnath Paikara also lauded the efforts of Janpad Member Kanti Devi Singh Marko and Mahendra Singh Marko, describing them as the driving forces behind this achievement. Local residents have hailed the Janpad Member’s “mission-mode” approach, stating that such proactive leadership is exactly what is needed to accelerate rural development and safeguard the future of the youth.
