Surajpur: A shocking case of system negligence has come to light in Chhattisgarh’s Surajpur district. School children were seen travelling risking their lives on a speeding sand-laden truck on the National Highway NH-43. As soon as the video of this entire incident surfaced, there was a stir in the district.
The case is of Bishrampur-Ambikapur main road, where a sand-laden truck numbered CG15/EB/0698 was running at a high speed near Parvatipur village on Tuesday. The special thing was that four school children were riding on this vehicle. Some were sitting on a pile of sand, while some were sitting dangerously on the bonnet of the truck. The children were in full uniform and had school bags hanging on their shoulders.
While this scene is heart-wrenching, it also completely exposes the negligence of the government system. The video clearly shows to what extent the lives of children have been put at risk.
Why is the responsible system silent?
On one hand, the government says that the safety of children is the top priority, on the other hand, the ground reality is telling something else. The role of the traffic department, school management and transport department, all three are under question.
Children travelling like this on a heavy vehicle like a truck on a busy and high-speed route like NH-43 is a serious negligence. Usually traffic checking is done here, but the lack of constant monitoring invites such incidents. At the same time, questions are also being raised on the absence of a highway patrolling team that patrols 24 hours a day.
Is the life of children so cheap?
This incident has once again proved how much we are still compromising on the safety of innocent children going to school. The children neither had seat belts nor any safety measures. These young students sitting on a pile of sand could have lost their lives with just a slight shock. This is not just a violation of traffic rules, but an open invitation to a major human tragedy.
What will the administration do now?
Now everyone’s eyes are on the traffic and transport department. The question is, will the department take this video seriously this time? Will action be taken against the sand vehicle owner and the child carriers? Or will this case also remain buried in files like other accidents?
It is clear that if the administration does not take strict action on this incident, then this negligence can one day turn into a major accident. The price of which we all will have to pay. Now it remains to be seen whether the administration takes a lesson from this horrific scene and takes any concrete steps, or the system will remain asleep like this.
