Raipur: At 75, Suraj Bai no longer waits for help—she receives it every month, straight into her bank account. In the remote village Dhanras in Korba’s Katghora block, Chhattisgarh government’s Mahtari Vandan Yojana is transforming the lives of elderly women like her—quietly but powerfully. What was once a daily struggle for dignity has now turned into a life of independence and self-respect, thanks to a simple yet impactful Rs 1,000 monthly support.
Under the scheme, Suraj Bai receives a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 directly into her bank account. This support has allowed her to manage her medical expenses, purchase medicines, fruits, vegetables, and other essentials independently.
“As age progresses, it becomes difficult to work. But the Scheme has made life easier and more self-reliant for me,” Suraj Bai said. Although her son works in the city, she used to depend on others for small daily needs. “Now this scheme has given me the opportunity to live with dignity,” she added.
Suraj Bai expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Rajwade for launching a scheme that has brought real change to the lives of thousands of women like her. She stated the initiative has proved to be a lifeline for elderly women across the state.
Minister Laxmi Rajwade stated that the state government is committed to providing financial empowerment to every needy woman in society. ‘It is our priority to ensure that all women can live lives of dignity and self-respect. Mahtari Vandan Yojana is a powerful step in that direction and is effectively reaching rural communities,’ she stated.
