Sukma: An encounter has erupted once again between security forces and Maoists in Sukma, a Naxal-affected district in Chhattisgarh. According to reports, security forces launched a search operation late last night following information about the presence of Naxalites in the western forests and hilly areas of the district. During the operation, the soldiers encountered Maoists on Thursday morning (September 18), following which intermittent exchanges of fire continued.
Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan confirmed the encounter. He stated that it is not possible to share sensitive information related to the operation at this time, as it could compromise the operation and the safety of the soldiers. He stated that the security forces are operating with utmost vigilance and strategy.
The encounter is taking place in an area long considered a stronghold of Maoist activities. During the security forces’ siege, Naxalites, lying in ambush, suddenly opened fire, prompting the soldiers to take charge and retaliate. Intermittent gunfire can be heard in the area, and the operation is still ongoing.
It is noteworthy that the Sukma, Dantewada, and Bijapur districts of the Bastar division have long been affected by Naxalite violence. Encounters between security forces and Naxalites are reported daily. In recent months, security agencies have conducted several successful operations, in which a large number of Naxalites have been killed, arrested, or have left the organization and joined the mainstream.
